Mash Up

Posted by Gretchen Helmer on September 14, 2007. Filled under Uncategorized.

I was wandering around the humongous Borders (I think it’s Borders) Books on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis the other day and I found myself among the tables of tiny books by the front checkouts. These mini books in turn annoy and intrigue me. Not sure why. Anywho, I happened upon a brilliant little find–a marriage of two of my favorite things–called ‘Hockey Haiku‘. OK, I may be overstating it a bit–and yet it was a great read–clever and witty (two other favorites). Perhaps I’m easily amused, but I was delighted by the juxtaposition of two such disparate subjects. There’s something really fun and surprising about where it allows your head to go whenever two things that ’shouldn’t’ be together are. I can’t be the only one who digs this stuff–’mash-ups’ are all over the internet now. So, what are your favorites–the ones that have made you stop in your tracks or laugh out loud?

While you’re thinking about it, here’s my first go at hockey haiku:
Just 20 days ’til
the Wild return to the ice
my patience wears thin.
