Teddy Roosevelt claims that “The worst thing you can do is nothing.” My first reaction to that little piece of bibliomancy was to apply it as an admonishment to myself re: my not-very-well-maintained blog. And then I took a breath and decided that, in actuality, I have a different take. I think that doing nothing is sometimes the wisest choice–the mindful choice that staves off the insistent voices in our world that demand instant answers and actions–and gently, but firmly, says no. No and doing nothing can be the perfect responses–at this time of year especially. I say yes to no!
When is doing nothing the best thing you can do? When does saying no give you the most permission to do/be what you want?
Love this. Read something that was sent to me by a friend of my dad’s recently that reminds me of this. http://www.emotionaltechnologies.com/winter-2007newsletter.htm
Be well sister.
Thanks for this, Rachel! What a rich article. I love the suggestions to slow down–they feel very welcoming right now!
