Hearing of the unrest in Tibet over the past days has left me feeling heartbroken. In the building in the background of this photo–Jokhung Temple–I walked among spinning prayer wheels and yak butter lamps and was fascinated and inspired with the joyful monks chanting–it resonates in your chest and all through your body as you sit with them. I stood on the roof of this building at dusk–just above the long awning in the middle of this photo–and gazed out over the city and imagined the Dalai Lama in his winter palace–the Potala–and smiled in reflection upon the Buddhist nuns who were kind and taught me to wrap prayer scrolls. I recalled the pilgrims in their meditative circuits around the holy sites of Lhasa.
And my heart fills with love to have experienced these people and this place–who walk love and talk love and chant love and breathe love–and compassion and peace and community. And I am so saddened by what has taken place over the past days.
And what will I do? And what action can I take?
